PLEASE READ - CANNED/PREPREPARED/SPAMMED SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED I have a website that is currently built with classic ASP using an MS Access Backend. Its a member based site that is starting to slow because of the size of database. Members who join use it to prepare for a professional certification exam. They are given sample questions from which to study. I would like to port it from classic ASP and MS Access to .NET/ASPX and MS-SQL and make some other site improvements, including: A. Migrating the member engine to the .NET Security engine or since I plan on making this website a free site utilizing LinkedIn, Facebook, or Google for authentication. B. Centralizing all code/processes from just about every page to a centralized page/place where they are called appropriately by functions. C. Revising SQL statements that work with MS-Access to work properly with MS-SQL D. Migrating the database from MS-Access to MS-SQL including queries to stored procedures. E. Add a blog like commenting engine below the answers to each question allowing users to comment on the question and response. This would also include a thumb up/thumb down feature ala Digg to have users bump up and down best responses. The site will not be moderated so there should be a way for a user to report abuse - for inappropriate comments or links. F. The take exam function currently displays 150 questions. I would like to take this to a question by question sequence like most exams administered at testing centers and the ability to review and flag questions like other testing centers. G. Move the site from a host to my dedicated server H. The forums do not need to be modified. They will be deleted/removed from the site as part of the upgrade. I. Replace the HTML table structure with more appropriate CSS/divs J. Update to the administrative tools - including a way to add new questions, a way to message all users (email or PM or through the social networking site) K. Replace the bar charts on the answer page with charts from the google charts API L. Remove the “Links Page” which will be replaced by the comments beneath each answer (ITEM E) and place each link below each question as a comment from Item E - that way when links go dead users demote them and new links surface to the top. M. Remove and delete the “OTHER” page and appropriate database entries N Add a better data range filer to the stats page that allows user to see stats between two date ranges. O. Provide a way for users to track or remember progress through our database of questions. Our question database has about 1,000 questions. New members move through this list of questions and as they take a question it is hidden or filtered out allowing users to widdle through the database. It’s done by a simple SQL that filters out questions a user has taken. This feature is very popular and users ask at the end to be able to repeat the process – and move through the questions again but the SQL query that provides this does not allow for this to happen and I haven’t been able to figure out a way to facilitate this – perhaps a question bookmark? P. Other coding improvements to improve performance. I intend to hire after reviewing responses to the tasks above and to the following questions: 1. Did you visit planningprep.com and log in to the members area of the website? 2. Do you understand the purpose and function of the website? Please explain - 1-2 sentences. 3. Do you follow the general flow of processes and scripts that run website? Please explain - 1-2 sentences. 4. Do you understand what is being asked to be undertaken? Please explain. 4. Can you change the login/security setting? If so what would you recommend - LinkedIn, Facebook, Google, .NET, Other? 5. Do you understand the desire to add a commenting engine below the responses to each question? Allowing users to leave feedback and facilitate their own discussion below each question. Please explain. 6. I was hoping to implement something like a Digg feature to the responses below questions (thumb up/thumb down) to facilitate the best feedback floating to the top. Is this something you can deliver? 7. The take exam function currently displays 150 questions. I would like to take this to a question by question sequence like most exams administered at testing centers. Did you anticipate changes such as this in your bid? If no, how much to add this functionality. 8. Do you have a MS Testing/Development server where your work would be done, or is the hosting and access my responsibility? Thank you for your time and interest. I am hoping to make a decision ASAP and kick this off immediately. The website is http://www.planningprep.com - Prospective programmers can login with odesk/odesk to get a feel for the site’s content and functions. There are other features to be added once these changes/updates are made and expect to use the same programmer for these as well.
